We are very excited about the auction coming up on October 11. Preparations have kept us so busy! Stephen is somehow making it to the auctions in New York this week, even though photo sleeves and labels are calling his name back at the office. I have personally been working day and night to get the online catalog looking good on our new website, making botched batch uploads and cry-laughing at my scripts gone terribly wrong. Yes, I learned the hard way that text files don’t understand em dashes and Excel turns quotes to double quotes in formulas. (Tech geeks: don’t laugh.)
Anyway, in case you hadn’t noticed, the auction is undergoing a couple changes this year. First off, I am so glad that we are able to feature my good friend’s jazz group, the Julian Hartwell Trio. You can listen to their music at their soundcloud site. Also, you can purchase tickets ($20 general, $15 student) in our online shop. While we figure students probably won’t be making many purchases, we’d love young photographers and future collectors to see this facet of the photo world. Also, we always need volunteer help. Drop us a line if you’re interested in that.
Two lots have already sold! By bidding the high estimate, buyers have purchased Edward S. Curtis’ Subscription promotion for The North American Indian and Diana Schoenfeld’s Illusory Arrangement: Female Figure with Leaves and Stones.
But don’t worry, there are three more Curtis photographs remaining, and a photograph in the same vein by Joseph K. Dixon.
If you had your heart set on the sensuality, alternative process, or montage of the Schoenfeld photograph, here are some other wonderfully dramatic images that might interest you:
Thanks for your support and interest in the auction. I’ll be posting more image features leading up to October 11.
